Working Title: Senior Estimator

Supervisor: VP of Estimating

Location:  Corporate Office and/or Dallas, El Paso or Houston Area Office

General Description of Position:   The senior estimator is responsible for determining the cost/duration of a project, identification of risk items, and potential revenue from the project. The estimator will take into account factors such as production means and methods, labor and equipment requirements, material and subcontractor costs, outside equipment rental, manufacturing locations, facility costs and required permits/licensing.

Essential functions and responsibilities listed below:

  • Assist in determining/soliciting project to bid
  • Review plans, specifications and other contract documents
  • Preparation of RFI’s and submittals
  • Visit jobsite/Engineer and attend pre-bid meeting(s)
  • Preparation of cost estimates including labor, equipment, materials, subcontractor and other miscellaneous costs
  • Presentation of estimate to senior management
  • Solicit quotes from vendors and subcontractors
  • Solicit Small Business(s) and DBE(s) as required
  • Review all subcontractor and supplier quotes for complete scope
  • Resolves cost discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information and closing out estimates
  • Prepare post-bid documents for archive of unsuccessful bids
  • Prepare post-bid documents an initiate buy-out process for successful bids
  • Maintain quality service for following organization standards
  • Maintain continuity among corporate, divisions, and local  work teams by documenting and communicating acions, irregularities,and continuing needs
  • Contribute to team effort through self motivaion and by accomplishing related results as needed
  • This work will be accomplished from either the Corporate Office or Area Office, under the direction of the Chief Estimator
  • Other responsibilities, if located in an Area Office, are as follows:
  1. Travel to Corporate Office  as required for training, bid review and bid closeout
  2. Assist Area Manager in procurement of local work opportunities
  3. Assist Area Manager in pricing local change orders, extra work, etc.

Education: Civil Engineer, Construction Technology, or Construction Science Degree and 10 years of verfiable work experience

Experience and Training:

  • 8-10 years experience estimating DOT work, preferably TxDOT
  • Estimating and closing out bids up to $100 million
  • Experience with HCCS Software preferred but not required
  • Design-Build experience preferred but not required

Other Requirements: Must have current valid driver’s license and have a safe driving record.
