Working Title:  Service Truck Driver, Truck Driver Single Axle, Light, Truck Driver Single Axle, Heavy, Truck Driver Tandem Axle or Semi-Trailer, Truck Driver Lowboy-Float, Truck Driver Transit – Mix, Truck Driver Trainee

Supervisor: Superintendent

General Description of Position: A Truck Driver is responsible for the transportation of construction equipment and materials to and from all job sites (sometimes in excess of 100 miles from the shop).

Licensure/Certification/Credentialing: Current Texas CDL with appropriate endorsements depending on assignment

Essential functions and responsibilities listed below:

  • Must have knowledge and conduct maintenance of single and multi-rear axle trucks meeting the requirements for Texas Commercial Driver’s Licensing (including a general knowledge of laws, regulations and operation of the stated vehicle)
  • Perform pre-trip inspections (correctly complete driver’s log book)
  • Maneuver and control the vehicle in a safe fashion, which includes handling the vehicle on-site and in over-the-road situations, proper signaling, searching for hazards, controlling speed, lane positioning, matching speeds to road conditions (wet, dry, snow, or ice), and the ability to drive during the daytime or nighttime
  • Safely load and unload all equipment/materials over all terrains, and properly secure all loads
  • Responsible for routine cleaning, fueling, lubricating, and servicing of their vehicle
  • Understand air brake systems if any vehicle is equipped with the system
  • Help transport cranes over-the-road
  • Travel (sometimes in excess of 100 miles from shop) to job sites and work outdoors
  • Must be proficient in the maintenance of the vehicle they are driving
  • Perform all of the above job functions in a safe manner in order to avoid personal injury and equipment damage
  • When not performing the above essential duties and responsibilities, may assist in other operations as designated by the supervisor
  • Able to load and unload equipment from trailers
  • Able to connect, and disconnect trailers of different types

Specific Equipment and Materials to be used: Operate small/medium/large power tools

Safety Policies and Practices: The employee in this job must be knowledgeable about and follow the company’s safety policies and procedures as described in the company’s safety manual.

Education: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

Experience and Training: A valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL), Hazmat, Tanker endorsement, tools to perform PM's and  three years experience, and knowledge of commercial driving regulations and roads is required.

Work environment: The work environment/physical demands characteristics described here are representative of those the employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; and high and/ or precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
