Working Title: Survey Rodman

Supervisor: Project Manager or Area Survey Manager

General Description of Position: Provide surveying service to ensure construction work complies with design drawings.

Essential functions and responsibilities listed below:

  • Must be prepared to travel if required
  • Provides work control lines, hubs, blue tops, side stakes and elevations that are required for accurate measurement and correct installation of materials by crafts, i.e., forms for concrete pours, anchor bolts, piping hangers and supports, etc.
  • Provides checking of as-built conditions that require the use of surveying techniques
  • Provides topographic and cross-section surveys as required for planning and payment quantities
  • Provides quantity calculations as required
  • Documents surveying activities
  • Assigned projects are completed on time
  • Surveying results are accurate
  • Safety goals are achieved
  • Building Digital Terrain Models
  • Discovering conflicts in the geometry of the contract drawings early enough to avoid delay to the project
  • Maintains surveying equipment
  • Maintain and set up base stations, robotic systems, GPS systems, and RTK systems.
  • Provide support for automated machine control operations, including millimeter control
  • Supervises surveying technician and surveying trainee personnel
  • Coordinates surveying activities with the assigned engineer to meet the construction requirements
  • Ensure that the project engineer receives assistance from construction surveyors in the preparation of the following construction drawings (Dewatering Plans, Excavation Layouts, Formwork Drawings, Concrete Lift Drawings, Underground pipe, line drawings, Beam and other heavy lift erection plans, Falsework and shoring plans, Earthwork Mass Haul Diagrams)
  • Ensure that Quality Control checks of our work are performed on an ongoing basis
  • Ensure that as-built drawings are maintained on our projects and kept up to date
  • Assist the project engineer in preparing and/or reconciling the Owner pay estimates by measuring and recording quantities on a daily basis
  • When not performing the above essential duties and responsibilities, may assist in other operations as designated by the supervisor

Specific Equipment and Materials to be used: Operate and setup surveying equipment

Safety Policies and Practices: The employee in this job must be knowledgeable about and follow the company’s safety policies and procedures as described in the company’s safety manual.

Education: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

Experience and Training: 1 year technical engineering/surveying training or minimum 1 year construction surveying experience or equivalent combinations of training and related experiences.

Work environment: The work environment/physical demands characteristics described here are representative of those the employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; and high and/ or precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
